BUCS is proud to announce a new partnership with Barefoot Wine. The BUCS Barefoot Wine Surf Championships sees the start of an exciting partnership that recognises the growth of the BUCS Surf Championship and the longstanding traditions that have shaped the Barefoot Wine brand.

Barefoot Wine works with causes close to its heart and has supported hundreds of not-for-profit organisations in the UK. This summer also saw the biggest ever Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, in partnership with Surfers Against Sewage, where over 1000 volunteers removed over two tonnes of rubbish from beaches around the UK, making them clean, safe and ‘barefoot friendly’. Supported by a team of 'Barefooters' the BUCS Barefoot Wine Surf Championships will add to the thousands of community and charity events that have benefited from Barefoot Wine’s support, including events as varied as the UK Footvolley Championships and Gay Pride.

BUCS welcome Barefoot Wine as they share our vision for enhancing the student experience and recognise the competitive but fun atmosphere that takes place every year on Fistral Beach in Newquay. This year we are expecting well over a thousand students to the beach and staying in the Surfer's village, and we know that this new partnership will only enhance the experience for all.

The BUCS Barefoot Wine Surf Championships takes place on Fistral beach in Newquay between the 14th and the 16th October. This year will see, more activity on the beach, in the surfers village, in the town and we still expect to run the world’s largest surf competition with over 350 competitors, slightly larger than the US Open.

“We’re delighted to be supporting the BUCS Barefoot Wine Surf Championships and bringing some ‘barefoot fun’ to the event” said Barefoot Wine Marketing Manager Yona Ellis.

“We’re looking forward to helping BUCS to make 2011 the biggest ever year, so look out for the Barefoot Wine tent on Fistral beach where we’ll be serving up some refreshing free samples the whole weekend.”

Stanton Warriors’ ‘The Warriors’ is one of electronic music’s most highly anticipated and long awaited debut artist albums. Please be warned that the 2010 draw filled up very quickly so don't delay in getting your guarateed competitors signed up first. Fresher's can be signed up when they've been recruited to the club.

And so it came to pass that the BUCS Surf Champs Weekender 2009 was graced with perfect swells, blazing sunshine and thousands of  incredible students.

So from all of us at Outgoing, to the hundreds who stayed and played in the Surfers Village: THANK YOU VERY MUCH - YOU WERE LEGENDARY!

We hope you enjoyed the surfing, socialising and interaction with other unis - Friday night in Pure was just incredible and congratulations to Callum from Strathclyde who won a brand new Rip Curl E Bomb wetsuit.

On a final note - the caravans were returned in a fantastic condition and the caravan park were delighted, so all damage deposit money is being returned and will clear in your accounts in the next 2-5 working days.

It is with great pleasure that we can confirm the return of 99.9% of the damage deposits taken from the BUCS Surf Champs Surfers Village.

Trevelgue were very impressed by how well you treated their Vans. So, those who pre-secured their security bond on the phone will have their money returned to their card tomorrow.

And anyone who secured in cash on check in will have theirs returned tomorrow as well.

Be prepared that the money may take a few working days to clear and if you have any questions or you gave the incorrect bank account details then please contact info@bucssurfchamps.co.uk and we will sort that as quickly as possible for you.

If you arriving at the Surfers Village after 9pm in the evening, then please let the Outgoing Reps know your arrival time by ringing

07919 172 458.

We will need to know to secure your caravan key from reception - it is essential you call us.

As regards the damage deposit, if you are not securing damage deposit on a card, then the Outgoing reps will have to take a cash deposit of £50 per person and this money will be returned via your Surf Club Captain & the SU after the event.

If you want to secure the deposit on one card then ring the Trevelgue Reception on 01637 851 851 and name your lead passenger or Surf Club.

BEDDING OR SLEEPING BAG
NO bedding is provided in the Surfers Village, so best bring your own. Of course you can take the risk and try sleeping in someone else’s bed, and if this fails then catching a chill isn’t as bad as catching something else.

SUN LOTION
Oi, Don't laugh – We know it may be Autumn, but on those odd occasions it is sunny in England, the UV rays reflect off the water and can burn your face. So best lube up none the less.

FOR THE CARAVAN ITSELF YOU’LL WANT SOME:
Toilet paper
Cleaning up material
Bin liners
Whatever food you may want for the weekend
Drinks for the Fridge!

YOUR I.D.
Drivers license, passport or official ID card – this is vital!
You cannot get into a nightclub in Newquay without ID, nor will you receive your event wristband. SO DON’T FORGET IT.

Bath and Bristol didn't know what had hit them when we started the BUCS Surf Champs season there this week.

In preparation for next week we danced all night. As usual the surf sim went down a treat, so much so that we have decided to bring it down to Newquay to add to the final night extravaganza, prepare yourselves for some serious university rivalry!

The very nice students of City College Plymouth will be heading down to the BUCS Champs weekender ready to assist the competitors muscles before and after they enter water.

Currently studying for their Sports Therapy degrees, these  guys and gals will be more than happy to help you warm up or down either side of surf-time.

Playing an eclectic mix of hip hop, drum & bass, dub step and anything else to get a crowd going, the last 2 years have seen Mistajam rise the ranks at Radio 1. He now does 4 evenings a week on BBC 1Xtra 7pm - 9pm slot, bringing the freshest urban, dance and dub to the nation – then at the weekend he turns his talents to Radio 1’s weekend programming. As a live performer Mistajam is a true showman as he mixes and MC’s an epic fusion of beats and basslines, that no crowd can physically stand still to.

Newquay’s exposed North Cornwall coastlines are ideally placed to benefit from the succession of Atlantic fronts, which really whip up the surf; creating some world class waves.

Any Surfer will tell you autumn not summer is the time to hit the beach! As the UK enters prime surfing season, the sea is warmer than it is in June and when you factor in the new generation of warmer wetsuits and beaches free of families and screaming kids. It soon becomes apparent why we choose to hold the champs when we do.

RELAYS is charity funded by Legacy Trust UK and HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council England). It aims to engage and inspire young people in a programme of festivals and events which bring together sport and culture, and create a positive legacy beyond 2012.

For the BUCS Champs 2009, RELAYS and the University College Falmouth will bring an exciting programme of contemporary surf culture to Newquay including:

‘Inspired by the Sea’ an exhibition of specially commissioned film, photography and design, accompanied by a range of topical talks and activities, a day of live music showcasing the most talented up and coming Cornish bands, The Surf Screen presenting a selection of the most creative perspectives of surf culture on the BIG screen, and much more.

Outgoing.co.uk and BUCS have put together a Surfers Village where all competitors, spectators and budding student surfers can all stay and party in the same unique Surfers Village.
